NEW DATE/TIME FOR CIRAS RELEASE OF
CANCELLED DOT-CA DOMAIN IS JANUARY 24, 2002, 9:00 AM (OTTAWA
TIME)
January 23, 2002
On January 24, 2002, starting at 9:00 AM (Ottawa time), the
Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) will release
from its systems all the domain names that expired before January
23, 2002, 23:59:59 (Ottawa time). It is expected that the approximately
20,000 domain names will be released and made available for
registration.
CIRA had planned to release these
domain names on January 17, 2002 but chose to postpone the release
when it was found that some registrars could not access the
pool of available names. We delayed the release because
we wanted to ensure that our first come first served approach
worked fairly for everyone, said Bernard Turcotte, CIRAs
President.
Since January 17, CIRAs systems
have undergone an additional series of highly demanding tests
designed to ensure that all cancelled domain are made available
for registration through any CIRA Certified Registrars regardless
of the registration technology used.
CIRA will sequentially release
domain names in alphabetical order, starting with domain names
registered as numbers (e.g. 121212.ca), in groups based on the
first letter or number of the domain name to safeguard performance
levels from abnormally high transaction volumes.
All
expired dot-ca domain names are available on a first come first
served basis and can be purchased through Add Value International
Inc. (www.caregistration.com),
a CIRA Certified Registrar. After
January 24, 2002, CIRA will release expired domain names on
a daily basis.
